SMC-S-006 (2017), AFSC SPACE AND MISSILE SYSTEMS CENTER TAILORING: SPECIALTY AND SYSTEMS ENGINEERING SUPPLEMENT TO IEEE-15288.1 (28-AUG-2017)
SMC-S-006 (2017), AFSC SPACE AND MISSILE SYSTEMS CENTER
TAILORING: SPECIALTY AND SYSTEMS ENGINEERING SUPPLEMENT
TO IEEE-15288.1 (28-AUG-2017)., This tailoring document is a domain-area supplement to the industry-consensus systems engineering
standard, adding specialty engineering requirements that have been historically deemed valuable to
mission assurance/success of high-reliability space systems.
The specialty engineering tailoring in this document supplements IEEE 15288.1-2014 Annex E, which
extends the guidance of ISO/IEC/IEEE 15288:2105 Annex E.4, Process view for specialty engineering.
This document identifies the specialty engineering disciplines1,2 which are critical to high-reliability space
systems for optimizing total system performance and total ownership costs, while ensuring that the
system is designed, operated, and maintained to effectively provide the user with the ability to complete
their mission.
The systems engineering tailoring provides additional detail in areas where IEEE 15288.1 provides high
level requirements or notes, but where more detailed requirements are believed necessary to maintain the
level or rigor required by national security space acquisitions.
