MIL-STD-3003, DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE STANDARD PRACTICE: VEHICLES, WHEELED: PREPARATION FOR SHIPMENT AND STORAGE OF (09 JUL 2001) [SUPERSEDING MIL-V-62038E]., This standard covers practices to protect wheeled vehicles against environmentally induced corrosion and deterioration and other forms of degradation during storage and shipment associated with the military distribution system. This document also provides the standard practices/processes for the military preservation, packaging, packing, and marking of Basic Issue Items (BII), Components-Of-The-End-Item (COEI), and On-Vehicle Equipment (OVE) shipped with automobiles, trucks, truck-tractors, trailers, trailer-dollies, and other wheeled vehicles. The model specific instructions will be documented on Equipment Preservation Data Sheets (EPDS). These EPDS will be used for vehicle shipment and storage in support of Storage and Maintenance of Army Prepositioned Stock Materiel and the Defense Transportation System, and will be reviewed and modified to accommodate the specific storage environment, storage period, and the amount of care of supplies in storage.
