An insert is a fixation device for honeycomb sandwich panel structures. A conventional or standard
potted insert system consists of three main components:
Insert + Sandwich structure + Potting mass
Non‐standard types of inserts have also been developed, Ref. [23-3].
This chapter provides an introduction to the various types of inserts along with some basic
guidelines for their use. It does not provide detailed design information, because this is available in
a separate handbook.
