AMCP 706-329, AMC PAMPHLET: ENGINEERING DESIGN HANDBOOK: FIRE CONTROL SERIES (SECTION 3) FIRE CONTROL SYSTEMS - FIRE CONTROL COMPUTING SYSTEMS (OCT-1970)., The Fire Control Series is part of
the Engineering Design Handbook Series which
presents engineering information antl quantitative
data for the design and construction of
Army equipment. In particular, the handbooks
of the Fire Control Series have been
prepared to aid the designers of Army fire
control equipment and systems, and to serve
as a reference guide for all military and civilian
personnel who may be interested in the
design aspects of such material.
The handbooks of the Fire Control Series
are based on the fundamental parameters of
the fire control problem antl its solution. In
all problems of control over the accuracy of
weapon fire, some method or system of fire
control is employed that derives its intelligence
from the acquisition and tracking of a
target; evaluates this system-input intelligence
by computation; and, finally, applies
the output information to the positioning of a
weapon along the line of fire. Primary emphasis
is laid on the systematic approach required
in the design of present-day fire control
equipment and systems. This approach
involves (l)thorough analysis of the particular fire
control problem at hand, ^establishment
of the most suitable mathematical model,
and (3) mechanization of this mathematical
model.
