NAVFAC MO-913, HISTORIC STRUCTURES PRESERVATION MANUAL (SEP 1991)., The Navy has a responsibility to develop appropriate plans for maintenance of
historic resources and provide documentation for alteration or disposal of these resources.
Each shore activity must ensure that the legal requirements of historic resource
preservation programs and the spirit of those requirements are met for all existing and
potential historic resources.
This manual is provided to help all shore activities protect the historic properties
they own or control. Activities are required to establish and implement a program to
identify, inventory, and nominate to the Secretary of the Interior every resource that appears
to meet the eligibility criteria for listing on the National Register of Historic
Places. Activities are required to see that their historic resources are not inadvertently
sold, demolished, moved, substantially altered, or allowed to deteriorate significantly.
