This tailoring document is a domain-area supplement to the industry-consensus systems engineering standard, adding specialty engineering requirements that have been historically deemed valuable to mission assurance/success of high-reliability space systems. This tailoring document supplements IEEE 15288.1-2015 Annex E, which extends the guidance of ISO/IEC/IEEE 15288:2105 Annex E.4, Process view for specialty engineering. This document identifies the specialty engineering disciplines1,2 which are critical to high-reliability space systems for optimizing total system performance and total ownership costs, while ensuring that the system is designed, operated, and maintained to effectively provide the user with the ability to complete their mission.
