AFWAL TR-81-3109, TECHNICAL REPORT: BACKGROUND INFORMATION AND USER GUIDE FOR MIL-F-8785C, MILITARY SPECIFICATION - FLYING QUALITIES OF PILOTED AIRPLANES (JUL-1982)., 'This document is published in support of Military Specification MIL-F-8785C, "Flying Qualities of Piloted Airplanes". It was compiled after an extensive literature review and meetings and discussions with personnel from concerned civilian and governmental organizations. The primary purpose is to explain the revisions from MIL-F-87858 and present substantiating data. This report was prepared by Mr Moorhouse and Mr Woodcock of the Control Dynamics Branch, Flight Control Division. The effort was conducted under Program Element 62201F, Project 2403, Task 05, Work Unit 32. It is part of a continuing effort to upgrade the military flying qualities specification. This is the interim report for the time period May 1977 to May 1981. The authors would like to acknowledge the significant contributions of Mr T. P. Sweeney of Aeronautical Systems Division to the final version of MIL-F-8785C. Significant inputs were also made by Mr R. C. A'Harrah of Naval Air Systems Command and Mr C. Mazza of Naval Air DAvelopment Center. The authors would like to thank them and the numerous people in industry and government who reviewed the proposed revisions and provided cotments and suggestions to improve the product.
