NASA-STD-8739.5 (W/ CHANGE 2), NASA TECHNICAL STANDARD: FIBER OPTIC TERMINATIONS, CABLE ASSEMBLIES, AND INSTALLATION (29 MAR 2011)
NASA-STD-8739.5 (W/ CHANGE 2), NASA TECHNICAL STANDARD: FIBER OPTIC TERMINATIONS, CABLE ASSEMBLIES, AND INSTALLATION (29 MAR 2011)., This Standard sets forth fiber optic termination and cabling requirements for reliable fiber optic installations, both single- and multi-mode fiber. Special requirements may exist which are not covered by or are not in conformance with
the requirements of this Standard. Engineering documentation shall contain the detail for such
requirements, including modifications to existing hardware, and shall take precedence over
appropriate portions of this Standard when approved in writing by the procuring NASA Center
prior to use. Processing of fiber optic cable assemblies will vary with the specific end item. However,
the requirements established in this Standard shall be used for the development of these project related
processes. This Standard is applicable to NASA programs involving fiber optic splices, fiber optic cable
assemblies, and fiber optic assemblies for flight hardware, mission critical ground support
equipment, and elements thereof, and wherever invoked contractually.
