MIL-DTL-62547C, DETAIL SPECIFICATION: VALVE AND CYLINDER ASSEMBLIES, HALON 1301 (30-SEP-1998) [SUPERSEDING MIL-PRF-62547 & MIL-V-62547]
MIL-DTL-62547C, DETAIL SPECIFICATION:
VALVE AND CYLINDER ASSEMBLIES, HALON 1301 (30-SEP-1998) [SUPERSEDING MIL-PRF-62547 & MIL-V-62547]., This specification covers three classes of fixed fire extinguishers, referred to
herein as “extinguishers”, “valve and cylinder assemblies” and “assemblies”, and an electrically
and manually actuated discharge valve, referred to herein as “discharge valve” and “valve”. These
items are used with bromotrifluoromethane (Halon 1301) fire extinguishing systems in military
vehicles (see 6.1 and 6.2). The extinguishers and valves covered by this specification are intended
for use in military ground combat and tactical vehicles [such as the M992 Field Artillery
Ammunition Support Vehicle (FAASV)]. Fire extinguishing protection will be afforded personnel
areas, open areas and other compartments such as engine or ammunition storage spaces where
there exists a potential danger of hydrocarbon fires. The dangers of detonation, deflagration and
unobserved slow growth fires are due to the presence of highly combustible fuels, liquid
hydrocarbons or flammable debris. The extinguisher will be operated manually or automatically in
conjunction with an optimal or thermal fire sensing system. The extinguishers and valves are
military unique because they have to operate in a temperature range between -51 to 71 DEG C
(-60 to +160 DEG F).
