FAA-HDBK-003, FEDERAL AVIATION ADMINISTRATION: INTERFACE HANDBOOK NATIONAL AIRSPACE SYSTEM (NAS) OPEN SYSTEM ENVIRONMENT (OSE) APPLICATION SERVICES (27 JUN 1997)., This handbook is approved for use by all organizations of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). It provides a general description of the applications and services, within an Open System Environment (OSE), that are available to users. It begins by discussing the OSE and the types of applications it supports. Section 3 introduces the OSE reference model and its elements and discusses them in detail along with the applications and services that perform the information processing for software applications. Section 4 discusses the conformance recommendations and validation procedures necessary for establishing an OSE. In addition, a section describing the Internet Protocol Suite (IPS) is provided in Appendix A. Reference documents for each of the applications and services are mentioned in the respective discussion sections. A listing of all referenced material is provided in the Applicable Documents section of this handbook.
