A-A-52586, COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION: PALLET, MATERIAL HANDLING, WOOD STRINGER CONSTRUCTION, 4-WAY PARTIAL, 48 BY 40 INCHES (27 MAR 1996) [SUPERSEDING MIL-P-52999]., This commercial item description (CID) covers a single 48 by 40 inches (in.) wood pallet for general storage and handling of material. The pallet shall be 48 in. in length by 40 in. in width, general purpose, fourway entry, flush stringer, double face non-reversible, wooden pallet. The pallet shall have a 2500 pound (lb.) maximum load capacity. As a minimum, the top load carrying deck shall consist of seven equally spaced deck boards and the bottom load bearing deck shall consist of five deckboards. Deck board dimensions shall be 0.75 in. in thickness and 3.5 in. in width. The pallet shall have three stringers. Each stringer shall be 1.5 in. in width by 3.5 in. in height. The center stringer shall be centered in the width of the pallet. Lumber shall be selected by the contractor and shall be subject to all provisions of this CID. Due to the spread of “oak wilt disease”, all lumber used shall be BARK FREE.
